Blessed Damian Dei Fulcheri, was born in Fulcheri, Liguria, Italy, to wealthy nobility and high social status. However, his early childhood was marred by an unfortunate event that would shape his life and reinforce his strong devotion to the Virgin Mary.
As an infant, Damian was kidnapped by a mentally ill man. His distraught parents, filled with anguish, turned to the intercession of the Virgin Mary, imploring her aid and protection. Through their unwavering prayers, a miraculous light guided the searchers to Damian's hiding place, and he was miraculously discovered unharmed and safely returned to his family. This extraordinary event left a profound impression on Damian and strengthened his faith in the power of prayer and divine intervention.
Deeply moved by this experience, Damian felt called to dedicate his life to serving God and spreading the Gospel. He joined the Dominican Order at Savona, Italy, where he received a rigorous education and formation.
